It is now official. Vehicles with internal combustion engines will be a thing of the past from 2030, with electric propulsion becoming the only way of circulation!
For her first time Greece confirms that will follow the rest of Europe and now sets a goal of a complete ban on the sale of cars with gasoline or diesel engines in 2030.
The adoption of the climate law was announced by the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his speech at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change COP26 in Glasgow.
The law will set quantitative targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% in 2030 compared to 1990, by 80% in 2040, with the ultimate goal of climate neutrality in 2050, which is also provided by Community legislation.
The targets will be reviewed every five years depending on the evolution of pollutants and Community regulations. In order to achieve the goals, a National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change, Regional and Municipal Plans for the reduction of emissions will be prepared. Sectoral “carbon budgets” will also be drawn up for seven sectors / sectors of activity which are: Electricity and heat generation, Transport, Industry, Buildings, Agriculture and Livestock, Waste, Land use, land use change and forestry.
Electricity is not just about cars and sales. It is the means to create conditions for sustainable development and protection of public health. It is inconceivable that human lives are lost prematurely in our country due to air pollution at a time when the replacement of a polluting vehicle saves 2.5 million grams of CO2 per year.
Now, it is clear that Greece follows exclusively the path of electric mobility, with all the benefits it offers not only to the protection of the environment, but also to the daily economy of using an electric car.
Future is a Green Present!
